Attorney Andrew C. Meyer, Jr., Elected Chair of Suffolk University Board of Trustees

BOSTON – The Suffolk University Board of Trustees has elected longtime University trustee and prominent plaintiff’s attorney Andrew C. Meyer, Jr., as its next chairman.

Meyer will begin his tenure as the University’s 14th chairman after being sworn in at the Board’s May 22 annual meeting.

“During nearly a decade of service on the board, Drew Meyer has made innumerable contributions to the growth and success of Suffolk University,” said University President David J. Sargent. “I am confident that his vision and leadership will move this University forward as we continue to grow in stature and prominence, and I look forward to working closely with him as he undertakes the role of chairman next month.”

Meyer received his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School in 1974 and an honorary Doctor of Laws from the Law School in 1999. He joined the board of trustees in 2001 and serves as chairman of the board’s Succession Committee and on the Finance and Development committees. He is also a member of the Law School Board of Trustees and the Dean Search Committee.

Meyer is an active member of numerous professional associations, including the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Boston Bar Association and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys.

He co-founded the Boston law firm Lubin & Meyer and developed the small general-law practice into one of the country’s most successful medical malpractice law firms. The vision, leadership and steadfast commitment to excellence that made his firm’s transformation possible will be put to work for the University as Meyer oversees the board of trustees.

Meyer’s professional accomplishments have been widely celebrated. Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly has called him “the quintessential plaintiff’s advocate.”  In addition to being named “One of the Most Influential Lawyers of the Last Twenty-Five Years” and “One of the Top Ten Lawyers of the Year” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, he was named to “The Power List – Lawyers Weekly’s Roster of the State’s Most Influential Attorneys” due to his compelling influence in the field of medical malpractice.

These honors are based on Meyer’s obtaining some of the largest personal injury awards and settlements in Massachusetts history, including a medical malpractice judgment of more than $30 million in a negligence case involving an infant who sustained brain damage. They also are due to his unwavering commitment to providing justice for his clients and his desire to make a difference in people’s lives.

Meyer brings this same desire to his work with Suffolk University.

“I am committed to the University’s mission of affording opportunity to those seeking to pursue higher education,” said Meyer. “This University opened many doors for me that might not have been available otherwise, and I look forward to my new role in guiding the University’s continuing advancement and recognition on a national stage.”
